Arbor Day Proclamation and Press Release

PROCLAMATION 

2022 Arbor Day 

 

WHEREAS, in 1872, the Nebraska Board of Agriculture established a special day to be set aside for the planting of trees, and WHEREAS this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska, and

WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world, and 

 

WHEREAS, The Village of South Glens Falls Village Board of Trustees is committed to the redevelopment of our municipal tree inventory with this Arbor Day Grant provided by the New York State Urban Forestry Council allowing for the planting of 3 new trees located at Harrison Avenue Elementary, Oliver Winch Middle School and near the Hudson Avenue and 5th Street intersection; and

 

WHEREAS, trees can be a solution to combating climate change by reducing the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and water, cutting heating and cooling costs, moderating the temperature, cleaning the air, producing life-giving oxygen, and providing habitat for wildlife, and 

 

WHEREAS, The Village of South Glens Falls is expanding on its efforts to improve our urban forestry plan from last year where we planted 30 new trees as part of a Community Block Development Grant on Wilson and Haviland Avenue.  This year the Village budgeted to purchase an additional $3000 in new trees to further improve our streetscape and urban design; and

 

WHEREAS, trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas, and beautify our community, and 

 

WHEREAS, trees — wherever they are planted — are a source of joy and spiritual renewal. 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nicholas J. Bodkin, Mayor of the Village of South Glens Falls, do hereby proclaim April 29th, 2022, as ARBOR DAY In the Village of South Glens Falls, and I urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and to support efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, and 

 

FURTHER, I urge all citizens to plant trees to promote the well-being of this and future generations.

For Immediate Release:

The Village of South Glens Falls received an Arbor Day Grant provided by the New York State Urban Forestry Council.  This Grant provides up to $1000 for the Village to plant 3 new trees to be located at Harrison Avenue Elementary and Oliver Winch Middle School and One additional Tree to be planted near the intersection of 5th Street and Hudson Avenue.  

This celebration is held in conjunction with Harrison Avenue Students and Oliver Winch Middle school students. The Village will conduct an Arbor Day Celebration and Proclamation Friday April 27th at Harrison Avenue Elementary School at 10:00 a.m. An additional ceremony will be held at 12:00 p.m. at Oliver Winch Elementary.

EARTH DAY PROCLAMATION

PROCLAMATION 

2022 Earth Day 

WHEREAS, the first Earth Day was enacted in 1970 and engaged over 20 million Americans to advocate for a  cleaner environment; and 

WHEREAS, Earth Day now has become a world-wide event and has highlighted some of the most critical environmental issues on the world stage; and 

WHEREAS, The Village of South Glens Falls Village Board of Trustees is committed to the redevelopment of our municipal tree inventory with this Arbor Day Grant provided by the New York State Urban Forestry Council allowing for the planting of 3 new trees located at Harrison Avenue Elementary, Oliver Winch Middle School and near the Hudson Avenue and 5th Street intersection; and

WHEREAS, The Village of South Glens Falls supports projects that demonstrate and encourage energy conservation, sustainability, and the usage of renewable energy; and 

WHEREAS, special Earth Day events, coordinated by the Moreau Community Center and the Common Roots Foundation,  are offered throughout Village of South Glens Falls to encourage residents to identify what they can personally do to protect the environment and make The Village a cleaner and greener state; and 

THEREFORE, in special recognition of the efforts and dedication of New York State  agencies, as well as Saratoga County, Moreau Community Center, Common Roots Foundation, New York State Urban Forestry Council and community volunteers. We, the South Glens Falls Village Board of Trustees, do hereby proclaim April 22- 29th  2022, as EARTH DAY Week. We encourage all citizens to become engaged in their local communities and join efforts to help maintain and improve The Village of South Glens Falls urban and rural environments.

PURPOSE

The Village of South Glens Falls invites Engineers licensed to practice in the State of New York to submit a proposal to provide engineering and consulting services to the Village Mayor and Board of Trustees and others when requested and approved by the Board.

OBJECTIVE

To provide the Village with technical engineering and consulting services which may include surveys, studies, reports, design, specifications and bid documents, construction inspection, grant applications and project administration on street projects, public water operations including but not limited to hydraulic modeling, supply, plant, distribution, storage and transmission and for sewer, including but not limited, to collection, pumping and storm water. When asked, the proposer would be expected to review review developers projects, site plans and design to assist our building department and the zoning and planning boards. The proposer would be expected to offer advice to the Village so it will be compliant with regulations and use proper maintenance practices.

The proposal must be received by 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 28 2022. Envelope should clearly state on the outside “Engineering and Consulting Services Proposal” and be in a sealed envelope addressed to:
