As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 3,368. The estimated population, in 2003, was 3,417.

Geography
The village is located on the south bank of the Hudson River. South Glens Falls is located at 43°17’47” North, 73°38’3″ West (43.296406, -73.634296). According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.9 km² (1.5 mi²). 3.5 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 9.40% water.

Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 3,368 people, 1,523 households, and 851 families residing in the village. The population density is 963.3/km² (2,500.6/mi²). There are 1,616 housing units at an average density of 462.2/km² (1,199.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 98.52% White, 0.68% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.15% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.12% from other races, and 0.45% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,523 households out of which 25.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.9% are married couples living together, 12.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.1% are non-families. 36.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the village the population is spread out with 21.7% under the age of 18, 8.3% from 18 to 24, 30.5% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.2 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $31,623, and the median income for a family is $41,694. Males have a median income of $31,757 versus $24,046 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,260. 10.6% of the population and 8.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 10.9% of those under the age of 18 and 13.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 1. The number of murders and homicides was 0. The violent crime rate was 0.3 per 1,000 people.
